ATP - Alternate Transients Program

What is it?

ATP is a software suite that allows the user to simulate transients in power systems. ATPDraw is a frontend for ATP that provides a graphical user interface for ATP. The ATP software is free to use with a few restrictions.

Installing

Windows XP

  • Goto www.eeug.org, download and fill in the licensing form as required and send it off. You will be issued with a login and username which will enable you to download the software
  • There are a few files that you must get
  • Download the latest version of ATPDraw
  • Download the ATP_MINGW32 version of ATP
  • Download GTP Plot
  • Make a folder in the C:\ Directory called atp (To avoid any problems with spaces in the folder names)
  • Make a folder within C:\atp called draw as well as plotxy
  • Extract ATPDraw to a temporary folder on your desktop and run setup.exe
  • Follow all the default instructions except tell ATPDraw to install into the C:\atp folder
  • Extract and copy ATP_MINGW32 to the C:\atp folder
  • Inside the C:\atp folder there will now be a zipped folder called armafit, extract this to C:\atp\armafit
  • Extract and copy GTP Plot to the C:\gtppl32 folder

Getting it all working

  • Start - Run - Type cmd - Enter
  • Type: set GNUDIR=c:\atp
  • Type: set PATH=C:\atp
  • Open notepad and then open C:\atp\runATP_G.bat
  • Change TPBIGG.exe to TPBIG.exe
  • Save and close notepad
  • Open ATPDraw and click on Tools - Options - Preferences
  • Set ATP to C:\atp\runATP_G.bat
  • Set Armafit to C:\atp\armafit\armafit.exe
  • Set Plot program to C:\gtppl32\GTPPL32.EXE
  • Under the Directories tab, change all the directories from the C:/Program Files... to C:\atp...
  • Under the View/ATP tab, click on Edit settings for Default Atp
  • Select Sorting by cards and Printed Number Width
  • Set the width to 10 and spaces to 2
  • Close the window and then press Save, Apply and Close
